6 BIM and AEC Products Announced at Autodesk University 2025
Sep 16, 2025
Autodesk University 2025 opened with CEO Andrew Anagnost declaring: “The future is here.”
In his keynote, Anagnost revisited a promise made seven years ago: that Autodesk would connect disciplines in the cloud and power collaboration with AI. For the AEC industry, that means doubling down and combining Forma, AI, and ACC.
Have they truly reached their promise? Are we at the gates of heaven? Let's find out.

Here is the breakdown of the most consequential features for BIM and architecture.
Autodesk Forma is a cloud-based web app for site analysis and modeling. It was originally called Spacemaker, acquired by Autodesk in 2020, and later rebranded as Forma.
Now, Forma is being split into multiple products.
Forma Site Design is the new name for the current version of Forma, which specializes in site analysis. But there is more...
Forma Building Design is a new product built on the Forma cloud engine, but aimed at building design instead of site analysis.
Users can study facades, test interior layouts, and measure performance using carbon and daylight metrics. This goes beyond simple massing studies.
A beta version will launch in the coming months.
Autodesk Docs has been rebranded to Forma Data Management. Another rebrand? 😅
For standalone Revit and AutoCAD users, a lighter version called Forma Data Management Essentials will also be available.
Neural CAD is here! 👽
So, what is Neural CAD? Autodesk has created its own AI dataset for building professionals. In Forma, you can now generate 3D buildings with predefined settings. Because it’s trained on Autodesk’s own data, results are more reliable and contain less “gibberish” than general AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude.
In this example, the user selects a building frame and a structural material.
This setting is applied to the Forma massing to generate an interior layout.
You can manually modify the AI-generated interior layout.
You'll also get lighting analysis for the units.
Previously, using Forma with Revit required a connector plugin.
Now Autodesk is introducing the Forma Connect Client, which lets you access Forma directly inside desktop applications. For now, it works only with Revit, but other apps are expected to follow.
The tool syncs data automatically. For example, a site context modeled in Forma will appear inside your Revit model without a separate login or connector.
As shown below, you can now run a Forma-powered wind analysis directly inside Revit.
Since the release of ChatGPT, many plugins like BIMLOGIQ Copilot have offered natural language commands inside Revit.
Now, Autodesk is releasing its own AI chatbot for Revit called Autodesk Assistant, described as an "Agentic AI Partner". It is designed to get smarter over time.
In the demo, the user first asked for the window-to-wall ratio on the north façade.
Since that ratio is too small, the user asks the assistant to replace all windows with a larger family type.
Then, the user asked to create a new view, clean it up, and place it on a sheet.
Everything in the presentation ran quickly. Looking forward to testing this one.
This year's AU mixed a few classic Autodesk moves (rebrand everything to Forma!) with some actually exciting tools. The real highlight is the AI Assistant for Revit. If it works anything like the demo, it could be a game-changer.
As for the Forma and Neural CAD, Autodesk are playing on grounds covered by many emerging BIM 2.0 such as Arcol, Snaptrude, Giraffe, Motif, and Hypar. Can they finally turn Forma into a beloved tool that users actually enjoy? We'll need more time and tests to find out.
