Pamphlet #36 - Mastering Lookup Tables - Using Excel in Revit Families

families revit May 07, 2025

What is a Pamphlet?

BIM Pure Pamphlets are PDF guides published 4 times a year by email. Each edition covers a particular Revit theme. We like to pick themes that are complex and confusing. Our job is to make these topics simple for you.

What Are Lookup Tables?

Lookup tables are an underused Revit feature to import a .csv file inside a Revit family. This is used when a family has many possible dimensions and values.

While this was originally conceived for MEP users, there are also uses in architecture and structure, as you’ll see in this pamphlet. This is an advanced Revit family feature: you should have good knowledge of formulas to make the most out of it.
